Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM234003 - Design machines and ancillary equipment

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Clarify the design task and elaborate the specification

  1. Establish required features of machine and ancillary equipment in consultation with client
  2. Determine parameters of the brief or contract
  3. Determine stakeholders to be consulted in design process
  4. Assess WHS, regulatory, sustainability or environmental issues relevant to design task
  5. Confirm design brief, including budget and schedule, and provide preliminary advice on feasibility

Perform design analysis and prepare concept proposals

  1. Carry out initial investigations and measurements
  2. Use current industrial design techniques and carry out required modelling and calculations using appropriate software
  3. Generate solutions that respond to the design brief
  4. Check feasibility and evaluate solutions against design criteria, ensuring conformity to standards and codes, technical, economic and WHS requirements
  5. Determine social and sustainability implications of solutions
  6. Review concept proposals with client and identify preferred solution

Design machines and equipment

  1. Finalise selected machine or equipment design and ensure preparation of all required documentation, drawings, specifications and instructions
  2. Consult with client and stakeholders to obtain sign-off on design
  3. Monitor installation and commissioning with stakeholders and make any necessary adjustments to design
